Christmas 2010 at LCH

Christmas Eve, Friday, December 24

The F.R.O.G.S. Choir and Chamber Orchestra will offer choral and orchestral music at our 5:00 PM Candelight Eucharist. The 10:30 PM Christmas Eve Choral Eucharist will present music by the two giants of Lutheran sacred music, Johann Sebastian Bach (Christmas Oratorio, Part I) and Michael Praetorius (Christmas Mass) which will highlight 10 vocal soloists, 2 organs, 2 harpsichords, full Baroque Orchestra and brass choir. Truly a “surround sound” experience.

Christmas Day, Saturday, December 25

At 10:30 AM the trebles of the LCH Choir will sing Gabriel Fauré’s pastoral Messe Basse and the plainsong propers for the Third Mass of Christmas. Favorite carols with soaring soprano descants will be sung.

The Feast of St. Stephen, Deacon and Martyr, Sunday, December 26

The 8:00 AM Service will feature lessons and carols sung by the congregation. The 10:30 AM Service presents the LCH Choir’s annual gift to the congregation of lessons and carols for this day. Many beautiful carols, which have been written for this feast over many centuries will be offered. Solemn Vespers will be sung at 7:00 PM. Bach wrote an absolutely sublime dialog Cantata 57 Selig ist der Mann for this day in his third year at Leipzig. We will present it with a beautiful Magnificat for solo soprano, flute and strings (long attributed to Bach but now known to be by a predecessor in Leipzig, Melchior Hoffmann). Chandra Peters, Georgine Stark, and Keane Ishii are soloists with the LCH Choir and Bach Chamber Orchestra.

German Vespers, Sunday, January 2, 2011

Our annual German Vespers features Johann Kuhnau’s Magnificat in C with Christmas interpolations and Bach’ s festive Cantata BWV 28 Gottlob! nun geht das Jahr zu ende.

Please join us for these services celebrating the birth of the Christ Child.
