Laurie Leach

Sunday School Co-Coordinator and Teacher

Laurie LeachMy favorite things about LCH Sunday School are... the annual Seder Meal, the Jesse Tree Liturgy, and most of all the Heifer Project Benefit Concert. It’s really inspiring to see the efforts our children make to put on a wonderful concert for such a worthy cause.

My biggest challenge as a Sunday School teacher is... never knowing whether I will have one child in class or six! Some activities won’t work well if there are only one or two children, so it really helps when parents can bring their children consistently from week to week.

I got involved with Sunday School teaching originally... by serving as the teacher’s helper when my daughter first joined the 2–3 year old class. After a year and a half I took a break when my second daughter was born. After helping again when she turned two, I eventually became the primary teacher for that class for a few years.

I first came to LCH in 1993 after attending an Easter service the spring before and then receiving and reading The HeartBeat for many months. I liked what I read and finally decided to learn more about LCH, joining an inquiry class and attending services each week. I became a member two months later and have stayed ever since because I have found it to be a loving Christian community and a welcoming and spiritually nourishing place both for myself and my daughters.

I’ve taught Sunday school at LCH for about 14 years now, mostly to kids 6 and under, but once I taught 3rd–6th grade.

I’m also both a teacher and an administrator in my Monday to Friday life at HPU, where I teach writing and literature classes to college students in the English department and direct the General Education Program.
