Worship Assistants

Description

The Gospel Procession: The Deacon reading the Gospel from the book held by the Sub-Deacon as the acolytes hold their torches.

Worship Assistants serve as Deacons, Sub-Deacons, Communion Assistants, Lectors, and Acolytes. Additional members for this lay ministry are always needed. Being part of the work (liturgy) of worship can be a moving and meaningful part of one’s worship experience.

Volunteer Opportunities

• Acolytes (Youth or Adults)
  • 8:00 AM service: Light candles and carry the Bible for the Pastor at the Gospel reading
  • 10:30 AM service: Additionally, Acolytes are torch bearers who process with the minister(s) and carry torches for the Gospel reading.
• Lectors
  • 8:00 AM service: Read first and second lessons
  • 10:30 AM service: Read first lesson only
  • Should be comfortable in front of a group and have adequate reading-aloud skills. (Lessons are emailed to readers a week prior to scheduled reading date.)
• Deacons/Sub-Deacons/Communion Assistants
  • 10:30 AM service: Sud-Deancon reads second lesson and Deacon reads Gospel
  • Should be comfortable in front of a group and have adequate reading-aloud skills. (Lessons are emailed to readers a week prior to scheduled reading date.)

Mahalo nui loa to all the volunteers who have served as lay ministers over the years. Please consider joining us in these vital ministries as additional worship assistants are always needed and welcomed. Training is provided.
