Heifer ProjectDescription![]() All the children sing the opening chorus at the 2010 Heifer Benefit Concert. Each year during Lent, the youth of the Lutheran Church of Honolulu hold a fund drive to raise $5,000 to purchase an Ark of Animals to distribute around the world through Heifer International. Heifer International is a nonprofit organization that gives income-producing livestock to needy families around the world. Heifer’s mission is “to work with communities to end hunger and poverty and to care for the earth.” Strengthening women and families, protecting the environment, and “passing on the gift,” by having recipients give away off-spring of their own gift animals, are all important goals of this organization. More information on Heifer International can be found at www.heifer.org. The Heifer Project is usually directed by Anna Womack and Teresa McCreary. To kick-off the annual Fund Drive, the youth offer a concert, performing hula, song, piano, violin, cello, tuba, organ, and recitations. In return, concert goers and the congregation are asked to pledge $1 a day during the Lenten season to help reach the goal of $5,000. Volunteer OpportunitiesVolunteers are needed to help with:
