From Pastor Jeff
On Wednesday of this week, Christians around the world will gather to share the ritual of imposition of ashes on Ash Wednesday. This traditional ritual marks the beginning of the season of Lent. Marked with ash, we hear the words “remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” We are reminded that we are made of the very soil we walk upon, and that some day we be unmade and will rejoin the ‘Aina again. With gritty ashes and the scent of holy oil, we begin this humble forty-day journey in the company of saints. Old men, wise enough to know that their days grow short, receive the sign and join the journey. Mothers lift new born babes to receive a smudged cross. The child is the scent of life itself, but we remember that not even for our cherished children can we hold back nature’s course. But always we are comforted in the sure and certain hope promised in the one who first endured the cross—Jesus.
We are reminded of God’s promise to be with us in joy, in sorrow, in life, and even in death. The cross on our brows reassures us that God’s promise is true, even when we are not, and that God will search us out, even when are lost. Our journey into lent is marked with a cross, and a promise. Our journey into Lent is marked with Christ.

Angel Network Ingathering This Sunday!
This Sunday, February 3rd, is our monthly ingathering of food, personal care items, and plastic bags for Angel Network. ANC supports hundreds of families each month with food and other services. Help us partner with ANC by bringing lots of food. Pastor Jeff will deliver the items later in the week.
THANK YOU
Thank you to Jeanne Castello, Pam Buckley, and Olivia Castro for coordinating our annual Punahou Carnival Fundraising effort. The event is still going on, so we don’t have any figures for you, but it is going very well. Also thank you everyone who volunteered including folks from other congregations in the Hukilau Conference!
Leadership Roundtable
Committee Chairs or their representatives should plan to meet with Pastor Jeff and Brian Weis after the 10:30 service this Sunday. If the chair of a committee is unable to attend, please send a representative from your committee!
