From Pastor Jeff A Sacred Journey
In a few days we will begin our annual pilgrimage of Holy Week. It begins with Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey. A hero’s welcome quickly sours into greed, distrust, betrayal, and death. The celebrated rabbi for whom the crowds lay down their robes as path for his feet will soon witness as Jesus’ own robes are torn from his body and gambled away in a dice game. It is a difficult and sad story to listen to. Some years I wished I could skip the tragedy of Holy Week and move straight to the joy of Easter. “Alleluia, Christ is Risen!” is so much easier to hear than “Eli, Eli, lema sabachtani!” (My God, My God, why have you forsaken me.) But the joy of Easter is incomplete without the suffering of Holy Week. In the cries of Jesus we see the depth of love God has for us. In the weeping of Mary we are touched and changed. God is not some far away and uncaring deity but a present and loving companion along the way. So, we wave our palms on Sunday, share the Eucharist on Thursday, weep on Friday, hope on Saturday, and celebrate on Sunday. It is an ancient and wonderful journey which we are privileged to take. Please be sure to invite your friends and neighbors to journey with us. It might be an incredible journey for them as well!

Confirmation Seder Meal a Great Success!
Over 60 confirmation students and their families gathered for Seder meal at Christ Lutheran Church, Mililani on Sunday March 9th. Patterned after the traditional Jewish Seder, the meal recounts the liberation and exodus of the Jewish people under Moses. Bitter herbs, matzoh, charoses, and other Seder foods helped tell the story. We then enjoyed a wonderful dinner of lamb, chicken, spinach, and steamed carrots. Many thanks to Pastor Dave and the folks at Christ Lutheran Church for sponsoring this event.
