Pastor Jeff LilleyFrom Pastor Jeff

Alleluia, Christ is Risen! He is risen indeed, Alleluia! Last Sunday we greeted the world with these powerful and enduring words of hope. For some, the pageantry and beauty of an Easter Service is a delightful moment of celebration. For others, Easter morning signals something deeper and more enduring. Behind the banners, flowers, music, and chanting is God’s promise of life. This promise upsets the status quo of world cynicism and sheds the light of hope. This hope, this promise of life is not reserved for some chosen few in the distant eschaton but is a promise God makes in the present, for the present time. Today Christ is raised from the dead. Today, death does not win. While Easter morning is beautiful, it is only a momentary reminder for those who God claims as Christ’s body. We are Easter people, called, gathered and enlightened to bring hope to a hopeless world. People die, but death does not win. People are hungry, but hunger should never be a way of life. War is inflicted on our neighbors, but war does not rule. People hate one another, but love conquers it. Easter people are not waiting for the next Easter service. Easter people are Easter service.

MAHALO NUI LOA!

Many thanks to all of you helped get ready for Holy Week and Easter. Lots of folks cleaned, polished, decorated, re-arranged pews, and spruced up the grounds over the past couple of weeks. Also, many thanks to Carl Crosier and his worship team for coordinating our many Holy Week and Easter services, the choir for multiple rehearsals and fantastic worship leadership, Coleen Howard for her unending office support, Jeanette Hanson and the hospitality team for the great Easter breakfast, and Brian Wies for always being available.

RECONCILING IN CHRIST SUNDAY

Join us this Sunday, March 30th, for Reconciling in Christ Sunday. One of our four emphasis Sundays each year, RIC Sunday celebrates Lutheran Church of Honolulu’s decades-old commitment to be open to all people, including those who are gay, lesbian, or transgendered. Speakers from our ohana will share their experiences, hopes, and dreams as part of each Sunday morning worship. If you are interested in learning more about the history of how LCH became a Reconciling in Christ congregation, join us for adult forum at 9:15 in the Board Room. For more information contact the church office or Bob Zimmer.
