LCH E-News Lite—February 25, 2009
From Pastor Jeff
Our Lenten journey begins tonight with Ash Wednesday. Traditionally, this day begins a 40-day (not including Sundays) period of prayer, repentance, and preparation for baptism. The Ash Wednesday service begins with a call to repentance and the Lenten instruction. In humble service, we come forward together in prayer to receive the ashen sign of the cross on our foreheads. “Remember you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” The words are spoken to remind us of our own mortality, but the symbol on our brow recalls Christ’s victory over that self-same mortality. Tonight we will share ashes, God’s Word, Holy Communion, and prayer as we start our walk together on the Lenten Journey. I hope and pray you will join us!
