The recommendations of the Human Sexuality task force to move toward the ordination of gay, lesbian, and transgendered person in committed relationships while maintaining the unity of the church has stirred spirited debate. Testimony at synod assemblies has ranged in tone from measured theological discourse to impassioned pleas. As our church deliberates these weighty issues I rely on our Bishop Murray Finck’s advice to remain in confident and enduring prayer. I hope that as God’s church we will continue to seek God’s path for our mission, and I ask you to remain in prayer as our elected voting members look to the Holy Spirit for guidance. Join Pastor Jeff and Jean for a Trip to Germany!Join Pastor Jeff and Jean Lilley for unique opportunity to tour the sites where Luther walked and see the Passion Play in Oberammergau. Our trip will begin in Berlin and include visits to Wittenburg, Eisleben, and many other historic sites. The crown of the trip will be the Passion Play in Oberammergau. The play is performed only once every 10 years and is reported to be truly inspiring. The dates for the trip are June 4th–15th, 2010. For more information please visit the tour website below. In a few weeks voting members from around our nation will gather at the 2009 ELCA Assembly. Hundreds of lay persons, clergy, bishops, and visitors will gather for prayer and discernment as they do the business of our church, chart the course of our common mission, and shape policies governing over 4 million Lutherans. No doubt the most closely watched item will be a series of votes related to the recently released documents concerning human sexuality.
Please join the Pau Hana Team this Friday for a wonderful opportunity for fellowship and fun at Ala Moana Beach Park picnic site 28A. We will set up by 5:00 PM, but you can arrive any time! Hamburgers, hot dogs, drinks, Boca Burgers, and place settings will be provided. Bring chairs or blankets to sit on and plan to stay for the fireworks show at 7:45 pm. This is an all age event. Bring the kids and take a swim, chat with new and old friends, or just relax in the shade. Need Directions?
