Jesus often championed the causes of the poor, the hungry, the outcast, the homeless, and the sick. The people society chose to ignore, Jesus embraced. In his Sermon on the Mountain, and in the healing stories in the book of Luke, Jesus reminds us that God’s hope and love are not reserved for the strong, the acceptable, the healthy, and the beautiful. Rather, in Christ every person receives the richness of God’s mercy, the joy of God’s presence, and the joy of being well-loved. God’s hope and love are for you.

Prayers for Samoa, the Philippines, and Indonesia

Please keep the people of Samoa, American Samoa, Indonesia, and the Philippines in your prayers. Earthquakes, floods, and typhoons are leaving these area devastated and in need of huge amounts of aid. Bishop Finck to Address Hukilau Assembly October 17th

Please join ELCA Churches from around Hawaii for the 2009 Hukilau Fall Assembly at Lutheran Church of Honolulu. Bishop Murray Finck will address the assembly and share his thoughts on the state of the church and other matters. We will worship together, share a wonderful meal, and have an opportunity to network with other folks from the conference. The cost for the event is $10 per person to cover the cost of the meal. Please register by October 11th by emailing Pr. Jeff Lilley at pr.jeff@lchwelcome.org. The $10 will be collected at the door. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.

OYEA Annual Meeting and Chili Cook-Off

This is no ordinary annual meeting! OYEA (Oahu Youth Education and Activities) is the joint youth ministry of LCH, Joy of Christ, Calvary By The Sea, St. John, Maluhia, and Christ Lutheran Churches. On the afternoon of Sunday October 11th, 4:00 PM, at Christ Lutheran Church in Mililani, join our youth for our annual meeting and Chili Cook-off. Enter your favorite chili in our cook-off, or come judge the entries by voting for your favorite chili with cash to benefit OYEA. Come support our youth!
