LCH E-News—November 5, 2009

From Pastor Jeff

Pastor Jeff LilleyJust a week away from Veterans Day we received the news today of shootings at Fort Hood,Texas. Initial reports indicate that an officer assigned to the base allegedly opened fire on fellow soldiers, killing 12 and wounding 31 persons. In the face of such tragedy it is impossible to know what to say. There are no words suitable to adequately comfort the families of the victims, no rationalization that can erase the grief, no explanation that can make sense of a brutality that is shocking even to battle hardened veterans.` We are unbalanced by the sheer viciousness of the act and unbalanced by its suddenness. Soldiers know theirs is a risky business, but to have this happen on home soil, in ones own “home,” and among ones own comrades is unthinkable.

Let us gather in prayer for the fallen, for the victims and their families, for the family of the suspect, for the military community around the world, and for all who surround them. Send your Holy Spirit, O Lord, and bring your peace.

We will transport everything we collect to Calvary by the Sea where it will be sorted, boxed, and delivered to appropriate agencies serving the poor and homeless on our island. Here is the list! Help Needed

broom graphicOur Church building and grounds are one of the many gifts God has given us to care for. Currently we are in transition with our groundskeeping staff and would appreciate any help you might be able to give to keep our grounds and building beautiful. What needs to be done? Sweeping perimeter sidewalks, raking beds, pulling weeds, cleaning windows and benches, powerwashing the entryway, and stripping and polishing Isenberg Hall are all jobs that need help. If you are able to donate a little time, please contact Pastor Jeff at pr.jeff@lchwelcome.org,
