LCH E-News—December 10, 2009

From Pastor Jeff

Pastor Jeff LilleyJust before Thanksgiving Day a gentleman came into my office asking to make a donation. I had never met him before, and he had no past relationship with the church. “I want to make a donation to the church,” he said. I ask him to tell me his story. His tale was one of thankfulness for the ways he saw God working in the life of his family through some challenging times. Thankful for the many ways he saw God working in his life, he sought to give a gift of thanks that would “help others.” He handed me a sizeable check and walked out the door. The whole transaction lasted only a few minutes. I was a little stunned.

The Bible is full of angel visitations, but seldom do we get the chance to experience such a visitation first hand. For me, on that busy, over-reaching day, this man was an angel who reminded me once again that God is afoot in the world and doing wonderful things. Thankfulness moved his heart to share a blessing with the hungry and homeless, and he saw the church as an appropriate place to share that gift. He entrusted us with the blessing that we might share it on his behalf. Angels always have a message; this one shared a message we all need to hear these days: “The Word became flesh and dwells among us even now.”

The money he gave has been designated to provide meals to those in need at the Institute for Human Services. There it will feed those who truly need help to meet daily needs, have a hearty meal and get the services they need for human dignity.

In this time especially, I hope all of us can give the gift of thankfulness for all we have received and will receive.

Pastor Jeff and Jean Lilley are hosting a fellowship evening this Saturday, December 12. Join us to see “High School Musical II” at the Army Community Theater at Fort Shafter. The performance begins at 7:30, and tickets are available at the box office for $15 and $20. This performance is a very light but enjoyable romp through high school relationships suitable for all ages. Children seem to enjoy the show and are always eager to meet the “stars” at an autograph signing after the show.

Meet Pastor Jeff and Jean in front of the Theater at 7:00 pm. We will go out for dessert and coffee after the show. You will need ID and proof of auto insurance to get on the base, but this has not presented major issues for anyone. Come join us!
