LCH to Field Team for the 2011 Honolulu AIDS Walk

AIDS Walk 2011 logoFor the second year in a row, Lutheran Church of Honolulu will field a team for the Honolulu AIDS Walk. The AIDS Walk benefits the LIFE Foundation, the largest provider of services to those living with HIV/AIDS in Hawaii. The walk will begin at Kapi‘olani Park Bandstand April 17. This is Palm Sunday, but if you would like to walk you can easily complete the walk and be back for the 10:30 service.

How you can get involved:

  • Join the team—Go to the LCH AIDS Walk website. Click on the “Join Our Team” link and follow the prompts to complete registration. We will have a great time walking again this year. You should then begin to solicit sponsorships from family and friends. You may also join the team by signing up on the clipboard in the Hörmann Courtyard.
  • Sponsor a Walker—You can also sponsor a walker from our team website. As individual walkers register for the team, you can sponsor any or all of the walkers. Right now, you can donate to the team in general by clicking on the red box “General Team Donation.”

If you are not comfortable with online donations, please see Pastor Jeff or Peggy Anderson to donate in person. Checks may be made out to the Life Foundation. Mahalo!

Heifer Fundraiser

Heifer International logoThrough the combination of the “Fill the Ark 7 Benefit Concert” and pledges throughout the Lenten season, the children and youth have hopes of raising $5,000 to buy an “Ark of Animals” through Heifer International to be distributed to needy families around the world.

The children and youth are asking you to make a pledge or donation of at least $1 day during the Lenten season ($40 total). Right now we are about half way to our goal of $5,000! A pledge sheet will be available on Sundays in the courtyard, or you can write a check to LCH with “Heifer Fundraiser” written in the memo line.

For more information, please see Reid or Anna Womack.

Seder Meal on April 17

On April 17 (Palm Sunday) at 9:15 between services, the children of the Sunday School will again host a Seder meal in Isenberg Hall. This is a traditional part of our Easter preparation in the Lutheran Church of Honolulu. The Seder meal is the meal of Passover Jesus was celebrating with his followers when he first gave us the Eucharist. It is the Old Testament remembrance of God's special relationship with His people and His freeing of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt.
