LCH E-News—August 25, 2011

Message from Carl Crosier

Dear people of LCH,

I can’t thank you enough for giving me such a wonderful retirement celebration last Sunday. It was truly one of those special days that I will treasure always, along with my wedding day and the day we brought our newborn Stephen home from the hospital.

The service unfolded exactly as I had hoped with all of the musical groups giving their very best. I was so proud of them all. And as usual, Pastor Jeff gave a wonderful sermon illuminating not only the readings for the day but also acknowledging the occasion.

It was really touching to see so many former LCH members, musical and professional colleagues, and nearly every chorister and instrumental musician from all of the ensembles gathered for this service.

I wish to thank so many who gave me such beautiful lei, cards and gifts and personal expressions of thanks. My special thanks go to Jeanne Castello, Mary-Jo Estes, Sarah Roseberg and the fellowship committee for organizing the lovely reception following the service.

A very special thank you for giving me my very own iPad. Believe me, I will really enjoy it and won’t have to lug my laptop around on trips anymore!

Thanks for providing me with a place to fulfill my calling. My final request would be for you to give Miguel Felipe the same support and encouragement as you gave me throughout my long career with you.

With sincerest thanks and deep gratitude,
Carl Crosier
Cantor (Retired!)

Adult Forum Explores the Parables of Jesus

Sunday Adult Forum will begin a study of Jesus’ parables this Sunday, August 28, and continue the study for the next 5 weeks.

Do you know how many parables Jesus told? Catholic sources count 33, while other sources count 40 or 46. Did you know that the Gospel of John has, at most, 2 parables, while the other three synoptic gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke) contain all the rest? Why did Jesus use parables?

You are invited to learn about these teaching tools of Jesus as found in the New Testament at 9:20 AM following the early service in the Boardroom. Please come!
