LCH E-News—November 8, 2011

Operation Christmas Child

Christmas Child logoNational Collection Week for Operation Christmas Child is November 14–21. Bring your completed shoe boxes to LCH on Sunday the 13th or 20th.

  • It is recommended that you pay the $7.00 shipping charge for each box @ <www.samaritanspurse.org>. By doing so, you will receive notice to which country your gift was sent. If this is not feasible, simply enclose a check for $7.00 made out to Samaritan’s Purse.
  • You may download a label for each shoebox from the above website noting the gender and age range for each shoe box. If you would rather, you can put this information on a slip of paper and tape it to the box; the processing center will apply the label needed.
  • Should you have a problem getting the boxes to the church the next two Sundays, there are drop off locations around the island. Call the church office at 941-2566 for the location(s) convenient for you.

What is Operation Christmas Child and how can I help?

The mission of Operation Christmas Child is to demonstrate God's love in a tangible way to needy children around the world, and together with the local church worldwide, to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Here is what you can do to participate in the program:

  1. Find or buy a shoe box.
  2. Pick either a boy or girl.
  3. Pick an age range from the following: 2 to 4 years old, 5 to 9 years old, 10 to 14 years old.
  4. Shop for school supplies, hygiene items, toys, basic clothes, and other items.

You will be asked to bring the shoe boxes to church in early November. More information on the program can be found at <www.samaritanspurse.org>. Thank you for blessing children around the world with your generosity!

Wounded Warriors—Hero Miles Program

Pastor Steve Jensen has been making a big difference in the life of Marines returning from combat overseas. As volunteer Chaplain with the Wounded Warriors Program at Marine Corps Base Hawai‘i, he provided spiritual care, vocational opportunities, recreation, and re-entry for Marines recovering from physical and psychological wounds of warfare.

At a recent clergy meeting he asked the pastors to pass on his thanks and the thanks of the Marines for the many ways the Lutheran ‘ohana has been of help to the Wounded Warriors. Mahalo!!!

He also asked us to inform you of an opportunity to be of help. The Marines in his care often need to travel home to be with family or have family members who need to travel to the Islands to visit them as they recover. The benefit of having family present is immeasurable. Families are often unable to afford airfare and need assistance with this expense. You can help by donating frequent flier miles through the Hero Miles Program Hero Miles Program. Donation of miles may be made directly to the program which in turn consolidates donations to provide much needed flights for service members and their families. Or you may make a monetary donation at the website.

Blessings and mahalo!
