About the Concert
The choruses of the Lutheran Church of Honolulu and the Cathedral of
St. Andrew join forces with the Bach Chamber Orchestra in presenting George Frideric Händel’s epic masterwork, Israel in Egypt. This is the first historically informed complete performance in Hawai‘i. Composed in 1738, this largely choral work recounts the Biblical story of Exodus, using striking and inventive musical imagery to tell the tale of plagues befalling an empire and a people’s escape to freedom. Swarms of flies and locusts, hopping frogs, fiery hailstones, and even the heavy stillness of thick darkness are brought vibrantly to life by Händel’s imaginative settings. The work concludes triumphantly with the parting of the Red Sea and joyful celebration by the children of Israel. Be sure to get your tickets now!
