Christ the King—November 22, 2015

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: In today’s lesson we heard that Christ is the alpha and omega—the first and the last. We’re used to things like this pew that have a beginng and and end. But this sphere is different; there is no beginning and no end. I think of God like that. God has no beginning or end, and God encompasses everything. I hope you think of God that way and know that God always loves you.

Time after Pentecost • Lectionary 33—November 15, 2015

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: In today’s Gospel, Jesus and the disciples are at the temple, and the disciples are amazed at how big everything is. When I was a child, I thought everything at church and everyone was huge, and you probably find things big and scary too. I want you to remember that God is with you always, so don’t be afraid.

Time after Pentecost • Lectionary 32—November 8, 2015

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Today’s lessons talk about widows and treasure, so I have hidden a treasure here in the Nave. I’ll give you a minute to find it. This penny that you found on the altar is a treasure, even if it can’t buy much. In today’s Gospel, Jesus talks about a widow who gave a couple of pennies, and he said it was a great treasure because she give her all. When we give all we have, we are treasures, so you and everyone here are God’s treasures.

All Saints Day—November 1, 2015

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Today is All Saints Day. When you see pictures of famous saints, they usually have halos, but who are the saints in your life? I remember a man in my first parish who helped me see God. I’m sure you have saints is your life, so I want you each to take a halo and give it to one of those saints.

Reformation Sunday—October 25, 2015

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Today is Reformation Sunday. We celebrate each year because of the lesson we were taught by Martin Luther. He was afraid of God’s anger, but then he found out about a loving God in the Gospel, and we was set free from his fear to love God and others.

Time after Pentecost • Lectionary 28—October 11, 2015

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: If you try to carry this bag with lots of hymnals in it, you’ll have a lot of trouble because of all the books. In today’s Gospel, the man who comes to Jesus has so many things that he cannot love others or follow Jesus, so Jesus tells him to sell everything. We should not carry around so many worries about things that we cannot love God and each other.
