Joint Confirmation Camp (August 25–26, 2006)

Confirmation Camp was the first of this year’s joint events for Hukilau congregations on Oahu that are cooperating on the confirmation programs. Confirmed youth, especially those who had gone to Camp WAPO in the summer, came along not only to help with games and supervision but also to enhance the bond across age groups.

Tents on the lawn of Christ Lutheran, Mililani
Christ Lutheran Mililani hosted the group, allowing them to set up their tents on the church’s their fenced-in lawn and use the former parsonage and church for their events. Of course, it rained as they set up, and the church forgot to turn off the sprinklers, so it was a challenge to get a dry night’s sleep.

Leaders explained the rules
Camp started with ground rules...

Lots of singing
...followed by songs and opening worship.

And then they had pizza for supper.

Enjoying popcorn with the movie
Later, they watched The Adventures of Narnia and ate popcorn before lights out.

Enjoying breakfast
Pastor Kieffer and his family cooked breakfast for us & stayed to make our lunch.

Youth from every church were spread among the groups up they could get to know youth from other churches for lesson and game time. Pastors taught “round-robin” classes on introduction to Baptism, Communion, the Lord’s Prayer, and the Apostles Creed.

Group games at Confirmation Camp
Games were selected to celebrate our uniqueness as individuals...

Group games at Confirmation Camp
...encourage team work...

...and just have fun.

The next Hukilau joint confirmation event will be September 10 at Maluhia Lutheran Church in Waianae from 4:30 to 7:00 PM. Each student is asked to bring food that can be consumed in a classroom by homeless kids (individual fruit/apple sauce containers, Vienna sausages, breakfast bars, etc.).

All are also invited to join the Hukilau youth for the OYEA day at Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park the day before, September 9.
