O.Y.E.A. Pu‘u Pia Devotional Hike (October 21, 2006)
On Saturday morning, October 21, about 30 youth and adults from LCH, Calvary, Joy of Christ, and Christ Lutheran (Mililani) gathered in the LCH parking lot to take part in a devotional hike to Pu‘u Pia in Manoa. They gathered under God’s glorious sun, and after a briefing by Ian—the trailmaster—they loaded into vans and trucks and headed out.
Expecting the famous “Manoa mist,” they were surprised when the sun still shown at the trailhead.
Not twenty steps into the hike, the mist began to enfold the group.
Step by step as they ascended, and the mist became drips, then drops.
Up they went-over wet rocks, roots, and wet ground, occasionally taking a brief pause to share their thoughts and appreciate the beauty of nature.
When they reached the top, the sun was still hidden behind clouds, but they were higher than the clouds. It was a real “natural high,” and the views of Honolulu, Manoa, and Tantalus were magnificent.
They were literally over the rainbow (a double one).
God’s creation is a mighty work indeed.
