O.Y.E.A. Thanksgiving Service Project (November 19, 2006)

Two participants gathering cans in their wagon On Sunday, November 19, Lutheran youth from across the island gathered at St. John, Kailua, for their monthly O.Y.E.A. activity—a Thanksgiving service project. The youth came with 8 large boxes of canned goods for the windward foodbank.

Then they went out with wagons to gather more cans from the neighborhood around St. John.

While some were gathering cans others put together ready-to-prepare Thanksgiving dinners for needy families. Four were delivered, and others were taken to the foodbank for families to pick up later.

No O.Y.E.A event would be complete without table fellowship. LCH’s Steve Schmidt was again the barbecue chef for hot dogs.

After supper, the youth gathered to talk about their experience.

Next month’s O.Y.E.A. event is the Christmas Party with Angel Network service project at Calvary by the Sea on December 17, beginning at 4:30 PM.

An OYEA advisory meeting with precede the party beginning at 3:00 PM.
