O.Y.E.A. Makapu‘u Hike (February 10, 2007)
On Saturday, February 10, members from LCH and Calvary introduced the family of LCH pastoral candidate Jeff Lilley to the Makapu‘u Lighthouse trail and Bellows Beach Park. Hikers were treated at first to a view of Koko crater and Hawaii Kai, and then they were buzzed by a number of hang gliders.
They also saw some whales before they reached the lighthouse.
From the lookout above the lighthouse, they were able to view Rabbit Island, Sea Life Park, and the coast all the way to Kaneohe Bay.
Following the hike, they gathered at Bellows for a picnic hosted by Peggy Anderson. After satisfying our hunger brought on by the climb, we took to the beach and shared the ocean with some transient sea turtles.
Also on the beach, one youth built a sand representation of the lighthouse while another sought a shortcut to his homeland of Japan.
It was such an enjoyable day, the group agreed Calvary would repeat these events next month as they host the Hukilau youth group. All are welcome to join in the fun!
