Last Epiphany: Transfiguration Sunday—February 3, 2008

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Today is Transfiguration Sunday, and Transfiguration is about change. We are about to change from the Epiphany season of light to Lent. One of the things we do is put away a word that you heard many times this morning—Alleluia—because it’s an Easter word. You’ll help me put it away now, and after the forty days of Lent, we’ll take it out again.

Epiphany III—January 27, 2008

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: If you ever went fishing, you know you have to have bait. Jesus says we have to go and fish for people, so what kind of bait should we use? We could use food or money to catch people, but Jesus used a different kind of bait—himself. Jesus is the best bait for us to use when fishing for people because Jesus is love.

Epiphany II—January 20, 2008

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: What do you expect when you come to church? John recognized Jesus as the Messiah because he was looking for the Messiah. If we don’t expect much in church, we won’t find much. But, if we expect to God to be present in church, we may find God.

Epiphany I: The Baptism of Jesus—January 13, 2008

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: This is an important Sunday because we remember the baptism of Jesus. You probably got baptized when you were very young, so you don’t remember your baptism. But just like with Jesus, when you were baptized with water, God said, “You belong to me.” Baptism is God’s way of saying, “I love you.”

The Epiphany—January 6, 2008

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Epiphany is God playing peek-a-boo with us. Jesus is God’s revealing, God’s uncovering, God’s peek-a-boo. We should never stop being excited about God’s revealing at Christmas and Epiphany.

Advent IV—December 23, 2007

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Before Jesus was born, Joseph found out that Mary was pregnant and was going to put her away, but God told him to keep her. Joseph chose to obey God and love Jesus as his son. In the same way, God chooses to love each of us.

Advent II—December 9, 2007

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Today we hear John the Baptist say, “Repent.” When I heard that word as a child, it seemed like people were saying I was very bad. It just means to turn around and go the other way. When John says “Repent,” it tells us to turn around and come home to God.
