Lent V—March 9, 2008

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: In the gospel, Lazarus dies and Jesus brings him back to life. It’s like he was broken and Jesus fixes him. Why does Jesus do that? So that we can have faith, and so that he can send Lazarus out as light to the world. When we are sad and broken, God puts us back together so we can be light for the world.

Lent IV—March 2, 2008

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: In the gospel lesson, Jesus spits on the ground, makes some mud, and puts it on the blind man’s eye. Suddenly the man can see. The man’s life changes, and he sees Jesus differently. It’s the same with us when we are baptized and can see God in everything.

Lent III—February 24, 2008

Preacher: Pastor J. P. Sabbithi
Summary: The M&Ms I just gave you have different colors, but the insides are all the same. In the gospel today, Jesus talked to a woman who was different on the outside. We people may look on the outside, but God looks at our insides where we are all the same.

Lent II—February 17, 2008

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: We can recognize Jesus in pictures from what he is doing, even if he looks very different from picture to picture. We know about Jesus through baptism, and Jesus knows us through our baptism through water and the spirit.

Lent I—February 10, 2008

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: In the gospel lesson, Jesus goes into the desert and meets Satan, who tempts him to turn stones into bread. Jesus knows he doesn’t have to do tricks. He is certain about his relationship with God. We can be just as sure that God loves us.
