The Reign of Christ—November 23, 2008

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Today’s Gospel talks about separating the sheep and goats. If I asked you to do that here, you couldn’t do it because you can’t tell by looking. Each of us is a little bit of sheep and a little bit of goat, but that doesn’t mean God loves us any less. God loves us and wants us to love everyone.

Time after Pentecost • Lectionary 33—November 16, 2008

Preacher: Pastor Mark Blice-Baum
Summary: You can use a clock like this to tell time so you won’t miss breakfast or church. Today’s lessons talk about time, but it’s a different kind of time. It’s about the future. They tell us God will be with us in the future, and we will be with God outside of time. The time we have now is for us to think about God and show God’s love to others.

(Webmaster’s Note: Pastor Blice-Baum recently moved to Hawai‘i with his spouse, Pastor Christine Blice-Baum, who is an Air Force chaplain.)

Time after Pentecost • Lectionary 32—November 9, 2008

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: When you see balloons like this, you know there’s a party, and today’s Gospel is about a party. If you’re at a birthday party, and the birthday boy doesn’t come, you watch and yell “Surprise!” when he comes. Each Sunday we have a party because Jesus is already with us. Take one of these balloons home with you today to remember all that God has given you.

All Saints Sunday—November 2, 2008

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Today is All Saints Sunday. A saint is someone who loves God, but have you ever met a saint? We think of saints as people who are very good, but when they were kids, they were just like you. I have this saints window, and I’m going to hold it up. Do you see the saints? (He holds up a mirror, and the children see themselves and the rest of the congregation.) Every time you look in a mirror, you should think, “There’s a saint!”

Reformation Sunday—October 26, 2008

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Today is Reformation Sunday, and it is important because Martin Luther showed us how to have a better relationship with God. The best gift I ever got was a shiny red bicycle, but the gift of baptism was even better because it showed me that God loves me and everyone. We cannot earn God’s love by ourselves. It is God’s gift.

Time after Pentecost • Lectionary 29—October 19, 2008

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: In today’s Gospel, people try to trap Jesus with a question about paying taxes. He says to pay taxes but to give God what is God’s. Of course, everything is God’s, and we are just stewards giving back.

Time after Pentecost • Lectionary 28—October 12, 2008

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Today’s Gospel talks about a party, but there are no guests. To make a party fun, you have to have guests. Each week at church we have a party. Jesus is the host, and we are the guests. And this is a time for us to rejoice.

Time after Pentecost • Lectionary 27—October 5, 2008

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Today’s Gospel talks about a very special place—a vineyard. We know grapes grow on vines, but sometimes if we don’t take care of the vineyard, the grapes are small and sour. If we take care of the vineyard, the grapes are big and sweet. The world is God’s vineyard, and we are called to be stewards—to take care of it. If we show God’s love, take care of each other, and take care of the world, we will be good fruit in God’s vineyard.
