Time after Pentecost • Lectionary 17—July 25, 2010

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: In today’s Gospel, Jesus teaches the disciples to pray and gives them the Lord’s Prayer, which we pray every week. But there are lots of different ways to pray since prayer is just talking with God. So you can just pray. We don’t know how God will answer our prayers, but we do know that God will listen, so just talk with God.

Time after Pentecost • Lectionary 16—July 18, 2010

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: (At the beginning of the recording, Pastor jeff is busy working around the altar.) There are many things to do for church, so we need many helpers, but we need to make sure we don’t get distracted and miss the important things. Like Mary, we need to make sure to listen to Jesus.

Time after Pentecost • Lectionary 15—July 11, 2010

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: These days, when one person helps another, we may call that person a Good Samaritan, but in Jesus’ day, the Jewish people did not like Samaritans. In the Gospel story, we hear how the religious leaders passed by the hurt man, but the Samaritan helped him. That was unexpected. God does things we do not expect and brings people into our lives we do not expect.

Time after Pentecost • Lectionary 14—July 4, 2010

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: In today’s Gospel, Jesus sends the disciples out to get things ready. Today, you can tell we’re getting ready for a potluck, so lots of people came early to prepare. Jesus is also sending you out, and there are lots of things to do, like feeding the hungry. Here are some bags so you can bring canned goods on Friday when we collect food for the Hawai‘i Foodbank.

Time after Pentecost • Lectionary 13—June 27, 2010

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: In today’s Gospel, Jesus asks people to follow him. It’s like Follow the Leader. You need someone who knows where to go, who is willing to lead, and who people will follow. Jesus knew where he was going and he had followers. And we are all followers of Jesus today.

Time after Pentecost • Lectionary 12—June 20, 2010

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: In today’s Gospel, Jesus meets a wild man. The people of his town had chained him up. It was a little like your parents might tell you to sit on your hands when you get wild in church. But if you sit on your hands, how can you praise God? God wants you to be free always to praise God.

Time after Pentecost • Lectionary 11—June 13, 2010

Preacher: Pastor J.P. Sabithi
Summary: If this pretty picture gets damaged, you wouldn’t throw it away. You would fix it up with tape or glue. God created each of you as a perfect human being. Sometimes you may do something that shows you’re less than perfect, but God doesn’t throw you away. Through grace, God can make each of us whole.

Time after Pentecost • Lectionary 10—June 6, 2010

Preacher: Pastor Diane Martinson-Koyama
Summary: You know how Transformers can change from one thing to another. In today’s lesson we hear how Saul changed from a person who persecuted Christians to Paul who spread the word about Jesus. The Holy Spirit can transform our lives too.

Trinity Sunday—May 30, 2010

Preacher: Pastor Steve Jensen
Summary: Today is Trinity Sunday, and that can be a complicated idea to understand. Think about how other people see you. Sometimes you are a friend, sometimes a daughter or son, and sometimes a grandchild. But there’s only one you. We also experience God in different ways, but there is only one God. And that is what the Trinity is about.
