Pentecost—May 27, 2012

Preacher: Peggy Anderson
Summary: Last week we saw how Jesus said he was going away, but he would always be with us in the Spirit. And today we heard how the Spirit came in a mighty wind. Tomorrow is Memorial Day, and we will see flags blowing in the wind. Whenever I see that or feel the wind blowing my hair, I can feel God’s presence in the wind.

Ascension (transferred)—May 20, 2012

Preacher: Pastor Phyllis Hormann
Summary: Your parents probably give you chores to do, and the same thing happens in today’s story. The disciples are given a to do list—go back to Jerusalem and be witnesses. As witnesses, you say that Jesus loves us and that Jesus died for our sins. And you can share your witness with everyone.

Easter VI—May 13, 2012

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: I was cleaning out my office and found this big box full of markers, crayons, and other things like that. It’s like a tool kit for making dull things beautiful and colorful. In today’s Gospel, Jesus talks about love, which is a different tool kit that lets us make the world beautiful. And like love, these makers and crayons won’t make the world beautiful unless I share them with you. So I’m going to give you each some, and during the rest of the service, you use them to make these drab pieces of paper colorful.

Easter V—May 6, 2012

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Today’s Gospel talks about vines. Several years ago Ms. Peggy planted a vine by my office. At first it was very small, but soon it grew big and covered the trellis she put behind the vine. God’s love is like that. It starts small in the baby Jesus and we see it flower at Easter. I’m going to give each of you a flower from the vine by my office to remind you of God’s love.

Easter IV—April 29, 2012

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Today is Good Shepherd Sunday. You may never have seen a shepherd, but they often carry sticks like this to protect their sheep and guide them along the path. Jesus gathers us in a keeps us safe with a different kind of stick—the cross. When you see the cross, remember that Jesus is the good shepherd who lays down his life for us.

Easter III—April 22, 2012

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Today is Earth Day, and we thank God for everything God made. In the Gospel, Jesus appears to the frightened disciples, tells them not to be afraid, and sends them out into the world. Loving Jesus is all about care of the whole Earth. This shows God’s love.

Easter II—April 15, 2012

Preacher: Pastor Phyllis Hormann
Summary: Today we heard a lesson about the early church. It says they were of one mind and everyone worked together to help all in need. Some of you help others in your lives, and we try to do that here at LCH with the Heifer Concert, IHS dinner, and so on. These are ways we work together with one mind to help those in need.

Easter Sunday—April 8, 2012

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Today is Easter when Jesus rose from the dead. You remember that we hid the word “alleluia” at the beginning of Lent, and today you have to see if you can find it. Now, I want you to lift up the alleluia, and everyone else will say it as loud as they can. So, for the rest of the Easter season, I want you to wake up every morning and say “Alleluia! Christ is risen!”
