Transfiguration of Our Lord—February 10, 2013

Summary: In place of the Children’s Conversation and for part of the Sermon, the children from the Sunday School presented a skit based on today’s Gospel from Luke 9:28–43a. Jesus takes three disciples up the mountain to pray, and there he is transfigured and appears with Moses and Elijah. The voice of God says “This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!”

Fourth Sunday after Epiphany • Lectionary 4—February 3, 2013

Preacher: Pastor Angela Freeman
Summary: Sometimes it is hard for you to say the right thing. In today’s first lesson, Jeremiah was called to be prophet, but he was young and didn’t think he could do it. You each have the power to use your voice for good and to tell people that God loves them.

Third Sunday after Epiphany • Lectionary 3/Welcoming Sunday—January 27, 2013

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: When you came up today, you found chairs and other barriers so you couldn’t be together. It wasn’t a nice feeling. In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells the people of his hometown to welcome everyone. In our lives, we are not always welcoming, so we have to removed barriers. Here at church, we want to be welcoming to all, so if you find something that makes you feel unwelcome, please tell us.

Second Sunday after Epiphany • Lectionary 2—January 20, 2013

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: In today’s Gospel, Jesus is at a wedding and they run out of wine, so Jesus makes more by changing water into wine. Jesus did that to shine a light and reveal God’s glory. God is still shining light today in all of you.

Baptism of Jesus—January 13, 2013

Preacher: Pastor Angela Freeman
Summary: Today we are gathered in the back around the baptismal font. Last week Benjamin was baptized, and today in the Gospel we heard about the baptism of Jesus. In the Gospel, Jesus God calls Jesus his son, and in baptism, you are all children of God. Over here at our healing station we have a candle that is very similar to the one at the font, so this reminds us of our baptism. And we have oil here to be marked with the cross, just like in baptism.

Epiphany of Our Lord—January 6, 2013

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Today is Epiphany. That is a strange word that means “uncovering.” You can see the three Wise Men up here at the crèche, and they brought gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. But their most important gift was their presence at Jesus’ birth. That is the same gift each of you can offer.

Sunday after Christmas—December 30, 2012

Lessons and carols—no children’s conversation

Christmas Eve—December 24, 2012

Children’s conversation not available for technical reasons.

Advent IV—December 23, 2012

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Today all four candles on the Advent wreath are lit, so Christmas is very near. In the Gospel we heard how John the Baptist leaped for joy inside his mother when Mary came to visit. This is a time of excitement, but you all seem bored. So, let’s practice and jump for joy when Pastor Angela says “It’s Christmas Day!”

Advent III—December 16, 2012

Preacher: Pastor Angela Freeman
Summary: Today I put crosses on your foreheads. You probably don’t remember when you got a similar cross in baptism, and even though you have washed your face, that cross is still there because God promises always to be with us. The oil I used smelled good because it has myrrh in it. Myrrh is used when we bury a body. So that smell reminds us that God is with us, even in the most difficult times.

Advent II—December 9, 2012

Preacher: Pastor Angela Freeman
Summary: Advent is a time of preparing for Christmas. You may be helping with the tree or deciding on presents or using an Advent wreath at home. However, it is not just about preparing things; we also need this time to prepare our hearts. I have a candy cane for each of you so you can practice patience and preparation by eating slowly.

Advent I—December 2, 2012

Preacher: Pastor Angela Freeman
Summary: In the world around us, we see lots of Christmas decorations, but for us it is Advent. We have our Advent wreath to count the Sundays until Christmas. You can have a wreath at home. It will help you wait and prepare.
