Our life together as members and friends of the Lutheran Church of Honolulu is rich and varied.
Congregational Life at LCH—July, August, and September 2012
A large group of LCHers headed over the mountains to Kailua to bottle up the wine that had been selected last May for LutherFest on Saturday, October 27.
The group of happy workers included Pastor Angela and her husband Michael, Pastor Jeff and family, and many others from the congregation.
At right, Peter Lee fills individual bottles from the glass barrel, Naomi Castro makes sure each is filled to the right level, and Jerrik Feliciano puts in the corks.
Additional photographs from the wine bottling are available of the LCH Facebook page.
Pastor Angela Freeman was installed as associate pastor of the Lutheran Church of Honolulu on Saturday afternoon, August 18. Pacific Synod Bishop Murray Finck presided at the installation. Also participating were the LCH musical ensembles, leaders of the congregation, and clergy for the Hukilau Conference and our ecumenical partners.
Following the installation, members and visitors joined in festive potluck in the Hörmann Courtyard.

The congregation greeted Associate Pastor Angela Freeman and her husband Michael Kiddy with lei and a Rite of Welcome on their first Sunday at LCH.
Pr. Angela served as deacon and homilist for the service. Preaching on the Gospel story of the the feeding of the multitude with five loaves and two fishes, she noted the challenges of youth and campus ministry and outreach to our neighborhood and urged us to respond in prayer and using the gifts we have been given, rather than saying there are not enough resources or forming a committee.

Family and friends from LCH and the community gathered to celebrate Irmgard Hörmann’s 95th birthday on Saturday, July 28.
Irmgard, the youngest child of Pastor Arthur Hörmann, pastor of LCH from 1916 to 1946. Born shortly after her family moved to Honolulu, Irmgard has been a member of the congregation all of her life.

LCH welcomed the son of David and April Olsen into the family of Christ through the sacrament of baptism on Sunday, July 22. The family was joined by many friend and family in the joyous occasion.
At right, April holds her son as Pastor Jeff pours water in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Following worship, the congregation extended their welcome to the newly baptized with cake and fellowship in the Hörmann Courtyard.
We were lucky to have a large crew from LCH for the monthly dinner at IHS (the Institute from Human Services, Honolulu’s full-service homeless shelter) on July 20 because of the large number of guests who came to eat that night. Joining the regular crew of Peggy, Iise, Billie Jean, Marjan, and Bill were Ian, Petra, and Jim.
Folks had prepared the regular menu of rice, meatloaf, cole slaw, vegetables, fruit, and dessert in the afternoon. And they had counted out 200 plates. But the line kept coming, so they took from the extra stash of plates, and no one went away hungry.
At left, the LCH crew poses for a photo during a brief lull in the line.
New volunteers are always welcome to join in this fun ministry on the third Friday of every month. Speak to Jimmy Castro or any of the folks pictured above.
Members of the congregation gathered at Honolulu International Airport on Monday, July 16, to welcome Pastor Angela Freeman and her husband Michael, as Pr. Angela takes up her ministry as associate pastor of the Lutheran Church of Honolulu.
Pr. Angela and Michael come to LCH from Massachusetts, where Angela was pastor of First Lutheran in Malden. They were joined on their journey by their dog Molly, a black lab, and their cat Buddy.
