Stewardship 2013—“Building a Rainbow of Giving” • Commitment Letter

Dear Friends,

Over the past several weeks, all of us at the Lutheran Church of Honolulu have come together to build a rainbow of giving. We have listened as members of our church shared thoughts about ten principles of stewardship. We have taken them home in rainbow strips, prayed about them, and formed them into our own rainbow chains. And soon we will bring those individual chains back to church so that together we can build our congregational rainbow of giving.

In this process, we have given substance to the different dimensions of stewardship sharpened our understanding that by generously giving of ourselves, we discover joy in Christ!

The guidance that Paul gave to the Corinthians in his second epistle is true for us today as we seek to grow our mission here in Honolulu and throughout the world. We are called to

  1. respond gratefully
  2. obey responsibly
  3. sacrifice proportionately
  4. give willingly
  5. share abundantly
  6. give proportionally
  7. commit intentionally
  8. contribute regularly
  9. live genuinely
  10. accept a challenge

All this we do because God first loved us and gave the supreme sacrifice of his only Son so that we who believe in him may have eternal life.

As you combine your rainbow strips into your individual giving chain, it is also time to accept the challenge and make your personal commitment of time, talent, and treasure to the ministry of LCH. With this letter you will find commitment cards for your participation in the various ministries of our congregation and for the 2013 budget. For your convenience, we have also included an authorization form if you would like to begin using electronic funds transfer or modify your current EFT. Stewardship calculators are available on the church website at <www.lchwelcome.org/stewardship>.

Please take some time in the coming days to pray about making your own or your family’s commitment to further God’s mission through us at the Lutheran Church of Honolulu.

Bring the completed card to church and place it in our “Rainbowl of Giving,” and we will dedicate our promises to God during worship services on November 11. If you would like to complete their commitment cards at church, we will have a quiet space set aside all morning on November 4, and you may leave your cards in the “Rainbowl” at that time. You are also welcome to bring or mail your commitment cards to the church office during the week, and it will be deposited in the “Rainbowl” for you.

Mahalo for your commitment to God’s mission of love through the ministries of the Lutheran Church of Honolulu.

Yours in Christ’s service,
Your Stewardship Committee
