Time after Pentecost • Lectionary 26—September 25, 2016

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Today we continue looking at characters form the Bible with K for “kingdom.” Kingdoms have kings with crowns, but they also control a place. So where is the kingdom on God? We often think up in heaven, but Jesus says the kingdom of God is at hand. It begins with God’s promise to be with us and in the life of Christ, and now it’s here with you. God’s kingdom is right here with us., and each of you is a part of it.

Time after Pentecost • Lectionary 25—September 18, 2016

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Today we continue looking at characters form the Bible with J for John the Baptist. John was Jesus’s cousin. He gathered disciples and preached for repentance. People thought he might be the Messiah, but when Jesus came by, John said that Jesus was the Lamb of God, so many of his disciples left and followed Jesus.

Time after Pentecost • Lectionary 24—September 11, 2016

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Today we continue looking at characters form the Bible with I for Ishmael. God had promised Abraham and Sarah a son, but when Sarah didn’t have one, Abraham had a son called Ishmael with Hagar, Sarah’s maid. Sarah was jealous and sent Ishmael and Hagar into the desert, and God took care of Ishmael and Sarah. This shows us that God always takes care of everyone one of us.

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Today we continue looking at characters form the Bible with H for hope. In today’s Gospel Jesus talks about giving everything away, and that is really hard. But Jesus gave hope to the blind man and others that they could have life, and Jesus gives us hope even when we are called to do hard things.

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Today we continue looking at characters form the Bible with G for Gabriel, the angel, whose name means “person of God.” Angles are messengers of God, and in Luke, Gabriel comes to announce the birth of Jesus to Mary.

Time after Pentecost • Lectionary 21—August 21, 2016

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Today we continue looking at characters form the Bible with F for frankincense, a thing and not a person. It appears twice in the New Testament, but the one we will look at today is then the Magi bring frankincense to the baby Jesus. Frankincense was one of the ingredients in the incense on the altar in the Jewish temple. The smell reminded people of God’s presence. I brought some of the incense we use at special worship services so you can see what it smells like.

Preacher: Peggy Anderson
Summary: If we want to get up high, we might fly in an airplane, so today we’re going to fold paper airplanes together. But an airplane can only go so high, so we could tear off the wings to get a rocket. But even a rocket can’t take you to heaven. But look; if I unfold the rocket, I get the shape of a cross. The cross represents our faith in Jesus, and that faith can take us to heaven.
