Transfiguration of Our Lord—February 7, 2016

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: In today’s first lesson, Moses wore a veil because his face was glowing, and in the Gospel lesson of the Transfiguration, Jesus’ face glows because the veil has been taken away. Looking at this sculpture from today’s Faith and Arts Sunday, we see the roots of a tree. The roots are usually veiled by dirt. We praise God for the way the Bible takes away the veil and we see God in Jesus.

Fourth Sunday after Epiphany/Welcoming Sunday—January 31, 2016

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Today is Welcoming Sunday, and in the Gospel, Jesus says that God has Good News for everyone, but the people in the synagogue got angry at that. Fences can be helpful, but they also keep people out. Jesus wants to open a gate and let more people in. That gate is God’s love, so we should makes more gates in our lives to bring people to God’s love.

Second Sunday after Epiphany—January 17, 2016

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: When we all put our hands on the altar platform together, we see that they are all different in appearance, and we know they all do different things. Martin Luther King knew that all people’s hands belong to God because we are all children of God. We should all remember that when we meet people.

Baptism of Our Lord—January 10, 2016

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Today we celebrate the baptism of Jesus. Most of you have been baptized as well, and there is no difference between your baptisms and Jesus’ baptism. You were all baptized with water, and you were also named as God’s beloved children.

Advent IV—December 20, 2015

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: All four candles on the Advent wreath are lit, so there are no more Sundays before Christmas. It’s almost here! In today’s Gospel, we hear how John the Baptist leaps in his mother’s womb when Mary comes to visit. So, let’s join hands and jump for joy because Jesus is coming.

Advent III—December 13, 2015

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Again this Sunday we hear from John the Baptist, who baptized with water but said that the one to come would baptize with the Spirit and with fire. Here at our baptismal font you can see a dove and a candle, and these are symbols of the Spirit and fire. We lit three candles today, so there’s one more Sunday before Christmas when we welcome the one John said will come.
