Transfiguration of Our Lord: Last Sunday after Epiphany—February 19, 2023

No children’s conversation this Sunday.

Sixth Sunday after Epiphany—February 12, 2023

Preacher: Pastor Bree Lloyd
Summary: Today we’re going to play “What Makes a Farmer?” If you put on gloves or boots or a hat or hold a spade, that doesn’t make you a farmer. Rather than clothes or tools, you need lots of experience. In the same way, putting on a robe doesn’t make you a Christian. It’s our belief and our actions

Fourth Sunday after Epiphany/Reconciling in Christ Sunday—January 29, 2023

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: You tell me you like nice people, smart people, average people, and even people who are a little—or a lot—different. When you invite lots of people, they may show up, and we have to make room. Jesus tells us that all kinds of people are blessed and we have to make room for them.

Preacher: Pastor Bree Lloyd
Summary: We hear themes of unity and vision in today’s lessons. You know that unity is about being together, and vision is about seeing, either physically or in other ways. This song that we will share, “I Ho‘okahi,” is a Hawaiian song about unity and vision.

Second Sunday after Epiphany/Martin Luther King, Jr., Sunday—January 15, 2023

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Tomorrow we remember Martin Luther King, Jr., who was assassinated for standing up to racism. These days we see the gains that came out of the movement King led being lost. What would Jesus think about that? The core of Jesus’ message is to love one another, and racism is the exact opposite of that. Jesus wants us to love every single person.

Epiphany of Our Lord (transferred)—January 8, 2023

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Today we celebrate the Epiphany, which is all about shining light and revealing God. As we go to our crèche, we see Jesus and the three magi, who followed the star. We also see the others who came to Jesus, and we too can follow the star to Jesus.

The Name of Jesus—January 1, 2023

Lessons and Carols—no children’s conversation

Christmas Day—December 25, 2022

Preacher: Pastor Bree Lloyd
Summary: Today I brought a miniature crèche scene with several baby Jesuses. We often expect Jesus to look and act in a certain way and be in a certain place. I’m going to hide the baby Jesus, and you’re going to help Phyllis find baby Jesus. And in the end, we see that Jesus is not always in the place where we look, but Jesus is always with us.

Fourth Sunday of Advent—December 18, 2022

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Today’s Gospel is all about the meaning of names. Do you know what your names mean? In the Gospel, the angel tells Joseph to name the baby Jesus (God Saves) and Emmanuel (God with Us), and Jesus lives out those names. How can you live out the meanings of your names? Jesus calls each of us Beloved, and that is a name we can live out in our lives.

Third Sunday of Advent—December 11, 2022

Preacher: Pastor Bree Lloyd
Summary: You tell me that you are often impatient. The story of the crow and the pitcher shows how smart the crow is and the reward for patience. My mother taught me a song about patience; maybe it will help you be patient.

Preacher: Pastor Bree Lloyd
Summary: Today we’re talking about hope, so we’re going to plant some seeds. Fill these containers with soil and push the seed deep in the soil. The seed have to go into a dark place and die before they bloom. We can water the seeds and send them out with hope for the blossoms. And we’ll wait with expectation and hope.

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Today is the beginning of the church year, but you already learned about that and our blue Advent paraments in Godly Play. Advent means the start of something new that God is up to, and we are reminded that God is with us and leading us to love each other in new ways.
