Following Our Passions

Dear Passionate People of LCH,

Follow Your Passion graphicWe on the Stewardship Committee know the level of passion in this congregation. Sure, we can hide that passion very well when we are asked to sing an unfamiliar hymn or volunteer for a committee, but anyone who has been a part of this ‘ohana knows how to unleash the passion. Just ask someone from one service to be part of the other worship service, or suggest changing the way we do something.
Passion is the energy that enables us to dedicate ourselves—time and talents, hearts and souls—to goals and to sustain that dedication over the long term. Without passion, our good intentions fade, and we cannot accomplish the mission that God entrusts to us as part of Christ’s church.

Our passion for the ministry God has called us to manifests itself in the way the folks on our Fellowship Committee offer hospitality, in the devotion of members over decades to serving meals at IHS, in the commitment of our Sunday School teachers and those who take care of our campus, and on and on. And our passions are revealed in the faithful giving of members and friends of congregation.

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus tells the crowd, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth…; but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven…. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:19–21). He’s reminding them that the way we use our treasure—and, of course, our time and talents—demonstrates better than our words what we are passionate about.

Over the coming year of reflection on the stewardship of our passions, the ministry groups of our congregation will highlight opportunities for you to offer your passions to the work that they do.

The three of us on the Stewardship Committee have a passion for giving or tithing in support of our church. This month we ask every member of this church family to commit their treasure to the ministry God has entrusted to us at LCH. Please complete the enclosed Commitment Card (PDF) and bring it or send it to church for dedication on Sunday, November 8.

With passion,
Peggy Anderson, Pam Buckley, and Bill Potter
