Please join us for an evening full of fun and scary songs and stories! Our October First Mondays concert will feature musical theater, opera, art song, and solo piano that spans the centuries, from 17th century composer Henry Purcell to current Broadway composer Andrew Lippa. This concert will be performed by two of LCH’s own choir section leaders, as well as our wonderful colleagues from Hawaiʻi Opera Theater and BYUH Hawaiʻi. Come hear some Beetlejuice and Grunchin’ Witch!, featuring Catherine Morris, soprano, Melissa Walker Glenn, mezzo-soprano, Brian Minnick, tenor, Robert Feng, bass, and Jennifer Duerden, piano.

Please join us for an evening full songs and stories! Grammy and Nā Hōkū Hanohano award winning Slack Key Guitarist George Kahumoku, Jr., will guide us through some history with storytelling and music. Music will include Hawaiian hīmeni (hymns) and a special guest appearance from Malia Kaʻai Barrett. Bring an instrument for the kanikapila portion of the program and your singing voice for a sing-a-long!

Join us for an exciting musical adventure exploring the various combinations of these four instruments in various trio formations. Yuseon Nam, violin, Alex Hayashi, oboe, Marie Lickwar, horn, and Jasmine Nagano, piano, perform music from the Romantic period into the 20th century. The lush romanticism of Brahms leads to the polytonality and quartal and quintal harmonies of Milhaud and on to the mature but lighthearted composition by Reinecke.
We will be going deep into the Wai‘anae Mountains above Mokulē‘ia. After learning about native plants, we will follow our guide David Anderson up the Nike Road, through a locked gate, to the rare plant nursery on the 685-acre Pahole Preserve. We will outplant some native species and do weed control on the hiking trail.

Come, Creative Spirit! Join us for a joyous jazz mass to welcome the Holy Spirit. The service features, featuring Bob Chilcott’s A Little Jazz Mass, gospel arrangements of traditional hymns, and spirituals composed by Moses Hogan and William L. Dawson. A free will offering will be taken to support the music ministry of the church. We also take this opportunity to say farewell to our wonderful accompanist, Reid Ishikawa. All are welcome! 
Composers of the Far North were often influenced by local religious beliefs, the constantly changing weather, and the many moods of pristine Nordic landscapes. In a variety of solo and chamber ensembles, our vocal and instrumental artists highlight the qualities of simplicity, minimalism, calmness, and meditation which exemplify so much Scandinavian music.
