At Lutheran Church of Honolulu, the arts hold a special place in our community. In the fall of 2019 Scott Fikse launched the First Mondays Concert Series to create more opportunities for local musicians perform, program outstanding works of the chamber repertoire that do not get performed frequently, and establish LCH as a hub for music in the community. Offered in the superb acoustics of the LCH Nave, these concerts have provided enjoyment for the entire community ever since.
Concerts are offered on the first Monday of each month (with some exceptions for holidays) beginning at 6:15 pm with pūpū in the Hörmann Courtyard and continuing with the concert in the Nave at 7:00 pm. Concerts are free and supported by the generous sponsorship of the Arthur and Mae Orvis Foundation and other donors in the LCH ‘ohana. Our First Mondays Concert Series operate under the “Music in Mission” model. With the cost of concerts covered by our generous sponsors, all donations by those attending each month’s concert will go to a valuable non-profit organization on O‘ahu. If you cannot attend a concert and wish to donate to that month’s beneficiary, use the PayPal button on this page.
ln support of the larger community, we continue to collect packaged, unopened dry goods (e.g., cereal, flour, sugar, pasta, etc.) and canned food donations for the Angel Network (a private, non-profit organization serving O‘ahu’s homeless and at-risk families as a foodbank) at each concert.

| October 5 • 7:00 pm | Telemann 2.0 Georg Philipp Telemann (1681–1767), a contemporary of Bach and Handel, produced some of the most inventive and virtuosic compositions for wind instruments of the high baroque period. Honolulu’s top specialists will present a dazzling array of works for recorder, flutes, bassoon, and strings from this prolific and fascinating composer. |
| November 2 • 7:00 pm | God’s Spectrum: Imago Dei The LCH Choir shares hymns from throughout the seasons of the Church year. Through the singing of hymns—both ancient and new—we celebrate the unity of our voices: voices joined not only with one another in the present, but also with the saints who have gone before us. On All Souls’ Day, join us to listen, join us to sing, as we lift our voices for the world and in loving remembrance of those dear to us who have died. For the Image of God embraces the full spectrum of life. |

| January 4 • 7:00 pm | Hollywood Heavyweights “Hollywood Heavyweights” showcases the composers who fled the Nazis during the height of World War II and went on to become some of the greatest musical voices in Hollywood. The concert will highlight the music of composers such as Herrmann, Steiner, Korngold, Waxman, and Rózsa and explore the connection between their Hollywood careers, their musical origins, and their personal influences that shaped their music. |
| February 1 • 7:00 pm | The Beckerath Organ: Dimensions in Sound Enjoy organ music through the centuries as Dr. Barry J. Wenger shares works of Bach and Mendelssohn, along with stunning music by living composers as we kick off Black History Month in style. Hear our new trumpet and salicional pipes featured through music of many genres, from classical to gospel and jazz! |

| May 3 • 7:00 pm | May Day Is Lei Day Lei Day embodies the spirit of aloha, with each lei representing the heartfelt connection between giver and receiver. In celebration of this treasured tradition, vocalist Kim Sueoka and guitarist Jason Nomura offer a lei of songs, gathered and woven together with music from Hawai’i and around the world. |
