Annual Meeting chickens graphicThe congregation of LCH comes together again on Saturday, November 18, in the Hörmann Courtyard, for the first half of our Annual Meeting. We will begin promptly at 4:30 so there will be enough time to do our business and then turn our attention to a grand party.

During the meeting at 4:30 pm, there are several items for our consideration.

  • Draft of the 2024 budget
  • Election of new LCH Council members
  • Proposal for Beckerath organ maintenance
  • 2024 Missional Objectives—Of the five original goals, two have risen to the top of the list.
    • Outreach to the LGTBT+ community
    • Planning for the 125th anniversary of the founding of LCH
  • Report on some preliminary plans the 125th anniversary of the founding of LCH in 2025 and how each member can get involved

At 6:30 we will enjoy a Giving Thanks dinner. There will be no thanksgiving dinner at LCH on Thursday, November 23rd. Here’s your opportunity to celebrate our partnership God’s grace and abundant mercy during the past year. David and Phyllis Hörmann will each prepare a roasted turkey for us, and there will also be a ham. Please augment with any side dishes you wish: potatoes, yams, vegetables, salads, desserts. There will also be beer and wine available with a LutherBucks donation. Proceeds will go to Maui Strong. Please come for both the meeting and feast. We all look forward to turkey!

First Half of Annual Meeting • Sun., Nov. 13, at 11:00 am

people are the church graphicEach year, congregational members gather as a community to tend to important matters of business and ministry. These include nominating leadership, passing a budget, receiving reports, and discussing our mission objectives. At LCH, we divide our annual meeting into two halves. This year’s meeting will be conducted in-person and via Zoom meeting. In November we’ll elect Congregational Council members to take office in January, review the draft budget, and conduct other business that may need to be transacted. In January, the main business is approving a final budget for the new year. All are welcome and encouraged to attend the meetings, but only members in good standing may vote. Please plan to attend!

If you will be attending the meeting over Zoom, contact Pastor Jeff, via email at pr.jeff@LCHwelcome.org, for a meeting number and password to log into the meeting.

Angela Freeman Officially Called as Co-Pastor

A Special Congregational Meeting on Saturday evening, January 25, voted unanimously to call the Rev. Angela Freeman as co-pastor of the Lutheran Church of Honolulu. This was the culmination of a process begun in the summer of 2012 when Pastor Angela joined the LCH staff as associate pastor with a two-year term.

In the last year and a half, it has become clear to both Pastor Angela and the congregation that God is calling us all to ministry together on a long-term basis. In the fall, the congregation signaled our intent to issue a regular call, and a Search Committee was formed to work through the process outlined by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The Special Congregational Meeting was the last step.

Preceding the Special Congregational Meeting was the second half of the Annual Meeting, when the annual report was accepted and an operating budget for 2014 was approved. In additional to all of the rest of the regular expenses of the congregation, the budget, which was also adopted unanimously, included the salary for Pastor Angela.
