Julia and Connie are both active performers in the Honolulu area; both playing with the Hawai‘i Symphony Orchestra, and Julia recently joined the Royal Hawaiian Band. This is an evening not to be missed.

Holiday Horn Spectacular graphicHorns go-a-caroling!!!! Join us for the Lutheran Church of Honoluluʻs First Mondays Chamber Concerts Horn Quartet performance. We will be getting festive with a variety of holiday tunes. Come ready to join in singing along with your favorite carol! To start spreading Holiday Cheer there will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes for the most-festively-dressed audience member.

Our artists for the evening are Marie Lickwar, Jamie Sanborn, Rory Onishi, and Colton Hironaka. They all believe in the words of Buddy the Elf, “The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.”

Frightful Fête! graphicPlease join us for an evening full of fun and scary songs and stories! Our October First Mondays concert will feature musical theater, opera, art song, and solo piano that spans the centuries, from 17th century composer Henry Purcell to current Broadway composer Andrew Lippa. This concert will be performed by two of LCH’s own choir section leaders, as well as our wonderful colleagues from Hawaiʻi Opera Theater and BYUH Hawaiʻi. Come hear some Beetlejuice and Grunchin’ Witch!, featuring Catherine Morris, soprano, Melissa Walker Glenn, mezzo-soprano, Brian Minnick, tenor, Robert Feng, bass, and Jennifer Duerden, piano.

Yuseon Nam, violin, Alex Hayashi, oboe, Marie Lickwar, horn, and Jasmine Nagano, piano, perform music from the Romantic period into the 20th century. The lush romanticism of Brahms leads to the polytonality and quartal and quintal harmonies of Milhaud and on to the mature but lighthearted composition by Reinecke.

First Mondays Concert: Scandinavian Pilgrimage • Monday, May 23, @ 7:00 pm

Scandinavian graphicComposers of the Far North were often influenced by local religious beliefs, the constantly changing weather, and the many moods of pristine Nordic landscapes. In a variety of solo and chamber ensembles, our vocal and instrumental artists highlight the qualities of simplicity, minimalism, calmness, and meditation which exemplify so much Scandinavian music.

This concert, which was originally scheduled for May 2, includes:

  • String Quartet in D Minor, “Voces Intimae,” Op. 56, by Sibelius
  • Violin Duet by Nielsen
  • Vocal and piano selections by Grieg, Stenhammar, and Becker Gröndahl

Featured musicians: Duane Padilla and Jeanine Markley, violins; Alexander Peña, viola; Aris Doike, cello; Thomas Yee, piano; Naomi Barrett, soprano; and Brian Minnick, tenor.

First Mondays Concert: BYU-Hawai‘i Hoʻolōkahi Chamber Choir • Monday, April 4, @ 7:00 pm

BYU-Hawai‘i Hoʻolōkahi Chamber ChoirJoin the BYU-Hawai‘i Hoʻolōkahi Chamber Choir (HCC) for “A Puni ka Honua,” an evening of contemporary choral music featuring composers from around the world. Experience everything from Korean special music to Filipino folksong to a new and timely setting of Ukraine’s National Anthem by Kurt Bestor. Featuring members from over a dozen countries, the Hoʻolōkahi Chamber Choir exists to fulfill the intercultural peacebuilding mission of BYU-Hawai‘i through song. The choir is known for its multimedia, collaborative concerts, which often include elements of dance, visual art, and the spoken word. HCC is also committed to premiering new works, effecting social change via musical means, collaborating with performing artists of all kinds on O‘ahu, and bringing the choir’s motto (“harmony in diversity”) to the wider world through international tours and recording projects. We hope you will join us! Suggested donation $20.

Concert will be on Monday, April 4, at 7:00 pm (doors open at 6:30 pm). Audience masks are required throughout the performance. Free admission, suggested donation of $20.
