Join the BYU-Hawai‘i Hoʻolōkahi Chamber Choir (HCC) for “A Puni ka Honua,” an evening of contemporary choral music featuring composers from around the world. Experience everything from Korean special music to Filipino folksong to a new and timely setting of Ukraine’s National Anthem by Kurt Bestor. Featuring members from over a dozen countries, the Hoʻolōkahi Chamber Choir exists to fulfill the intercultural peacebuilding mission of BYU-Hawai‘i through song. The choir is known for its multimedia, collaborative concerts, which often include elements of dance, visual art, and the spoken word. HCC is also committed to premiering new works, effecting social change via musical means, collaborating with performing artists of all kinds on O‘ahu, and bringing the choir’s motto (“harmony in diversity”) to the wider world through international tours and recording projects. Concert will be on Monday, April 4, at 7:00 pm (doors open at 6:30 pm). Audience masks are required throughout the performance. Free admission, suggested donation of $20.

The First Mondays Concert Series continues with guest artists 545 Express. Glenn Ellington (baritone), Eric Faris (tenor), Scott Fikse (bass), and Ian Kelly (tenor), known as the “a cappella sensation of Celebrity Cruises” will perform a much-anticipated reunion concert in celebration of their 10-year anniversary. Audiences will be delighted by their diverse repertoire of show tunes, barbershop, contemporary a cappella, and jazz.
The First Mondays Concert Series continues with a program of Renaissance Polyphony by the Italian master Palestrina and his student Allegri. Scott Fikse conducts a chamber choir composed of members of the LCH Choir and guests as they perform motets, madrigals, and Palestrina’s heavenly Missa Aeterna Christi Munera.
We warmly invite all people in all places of faith and life to Compline. Offered on the first and third Sunday of each month, this beautiful candle-lit service is a meditative experience. Join us for a 30-minute meditative time of prayer and reflection by candlelight. A cappella singing and chanting are led by the LCH Men’s Schola with John Bickel presiding.
All are welcome to participate in our monthly “Bach and Prayer.” Join us for this quiet prayer service on Wednesday evening, January 26. Bach and Prayer offers a time for silent prayer and meditation interspersed with contemplative organ works by J. S. Bach and his family.
Join us for a livestream concert featuring the wildly talented baritone Jacob Scharfman. Mr. Scharfman is a classically-trained American baritone performing opera, concert, and song repertoire. He won First Place in the 2021 National Opera Association Competition. Mr. Scharfman sang the 2019–20 season in the Opéra national du Rhin Studio, following his European début in the 2018–19 Salzburger Landestheater Studio. A graduate of The Juilliard School and the Merola Opera Program, he won the Oratorio-Lied Prize at the 2019 Viñas Contest in Barcelona and was a National Semi-Finalist in the 2018 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. Mr. Scharfman has prepared a concert for our audience featuring the works of Mozart, Ravel, Bach, Tchaikovsky, and others. Suggested donation, $20.
While we were all looking forward to celebrating a blessed Christmas season in the Nave as an in-person community, the rising covid positivity rate in Hawai‘i has caused us to rethink these plans. In the interest of safety, we’ve modified our Christmastide services as outlined below.
’Tis the season for live Christmas music. In this festive iteration of our new jJazz series, join us for a night of Donny Hathaway, “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” Wham!, and other festive tunes you might not expect to hear at the Lutheran Church of Honolulu. Joining our LCH Jazz Trio will be local trumpet legend DeShannon Higa and a few surprise vocalists.
While classical, Gospel, and contemporary popular music comprise the Morgan Singers’ repertoire; the choir is noted for its emphasis on preserving the heritage of the spiritual, especially in the historic practices of performance. The Morgan State University Choir has performed for audiences throughout the United States and all over the world—including Virgin Islands, Canary Islands, Canada, Africa, Asia, and Europe. Join us for a rare opportunity to hear this outstanding choir during their spring tour to the islands.
Join us for Lutheran Church of Honolulu’s annual Advent Procession, a beloved Hawai‘i tradition since 1975. This year we will present a prelude cantata, Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland, bwv 61, with choir, orchestra, and soloists.
